For over a decade before I ever drew a mahjong tile, I designed prints for a living — surface pattern work, the kind of thing that ends up on fabric, packaging, objects people touch as much as look at. I've been lucky enough to have my designs sold with Disney, Nordstrom, Saks, and even custom shoes for Stephan and Stephen and Ayesha Curry (but that's a story for another day).
I used to be in a bunco club, which I loved, but the demands of motherhood became my priority for the last few years. As my children are growing older, I've had more time to gather together with my girlfriends, one of which introduced me to Mahjong. I instantly fell in love. Not just with the game, but how it brings women together, how I always end up laughing, and leave feeling fulfilled.
Of course I needed to buy my own set right away! While there are plenty of beautiful mats out there, I didn't find anything that felt truly artistic and unique. That's when I had an idea.
I started to do some research, trying to figure out if people were looking for the same design-forward, artistic mats and tiles that I was looking for. When I didn't find any in that lane, that's where I decided to plant my flag.
What started as mats and tile sets has grown into a full table — tablecloths, napkins, notebooks, a few greeting cards, and I have so many more ideas in store! At the core, mahjong is a game we all love, and I'm thrilled to give us another reason to gather.
